The 11th Fred Logan New Year's Day gathering was held at Petrie Park, Nambour, by the Sunshine Coast Branch of the Society of St Andrew of Scotland (Queensland) Limited, and what a wonderful day it was! We say every year it gets better and this year certainly kept up the tradition.

The weather was brilliant sunshine with a light sea breeze all day. Spectators were an enthusiastic audience, especially for the pipe bands and dancers who excelled themselves on a warm summer's day. The programme also included songs beautifully rendered by our guest, vocalist Warwick Jackes from Brisbane, as well as delightful Cletic interludes from both "Keltish and Tapestry Duo".

The non-stop programme put our Scottish tradtions and heritage on display in excellent style. Local Mayor, Joe Natoli, officially opened the event and supported the underpinning idea of the event of bringing families together on the first day of the year to keep them united for the year ahead, whatever that may hold.

On behalf of the Mayor, Cr. Paul Tatton presented the perpetual shield for the most entertaining band on the day to "Clan Stuart", but of course it is an exceptionally hard choice given the great presentations from all the bands.

For those who tried to guess the weight of "Sunny" the Clydesdale, he weighed in at 700kg!
